The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's first bicycle tunnel, was opened as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycle path surrounds Jerusalem.
The tunnel runs along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Motza route. Its southern entry is located in Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is approximately half a mile away from the Nahal Ein Kerem junction.
On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin and Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman and hundreds of cyclists participated in a ceremony to mark the opening of the tunnel's 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Elkin, whose ministry and the Jerusalem Municipality led the project, said that his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels annually to develop all aspects of Jerusalem's visitors and in the creation and operation of exciting attractions, ventures and attractions that link the rich history of Jerusalem's eternal city to its future". Elkin's Ministry Elkin's Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality, and the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the project.

The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the 1990s to move the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant located in Sorek, which is located west of the city and is currently being used as an infrastructure tunnel. It also includes the fifth water line, which connects to Jerusalem of the Mekorot water company.
